Long Distance was a piece written while in my second year at Mills College. It extended on similar techniques used in my earlier piece Places, "freezing" sound by looping short segments of audio and combining very synthetic sound from CSound with more natural close mic'd recordings. The title, like Places, reflects what I thought the piece evoked, which was a sense of seeing very far, or traveling long distances in a short time, as you do when traveling by air.
